The Center of Mosque Studies – In last part of this article, we considered the major roots
and reasons for historical challenges between Iran and US after 1979 revolution
of Iran. Now we want to investigate the roots of resistance culture in Iran.
Why Iranians resist against any compulsion? Why don’t they homage in front of oppression of Washington?
We have to study all social aspects of a nation to
understand their reasons for doing some actions like resistance against oppression.
Many of these reasons are laid in cultural roots of nations especially
religious aspects.
You can find major roots of Iranians behavior through
their beliefs as Shiite Muslims who follow the ideology of twelve imams. But we
can point Imam Hussein (PBUH) as the symbol for beliefs of Iranian in their
life. The life of Imam Hussein is based on resistance against Bani Omayid
Regime and their oppressor ruler means Yazid Bin Moaviah who asked Imam Hussein
to homage him under constrain. The matter which was not acceptable by Imam
Hussein and that’s why battle of Ashura happened because of this refuse.
Many of Shiite scholars who believes in dynamic
Fiqh, stress on significance of following Imam Hussein’s attitude on today’s
issues. They prohibit Shiites from obey illegitimate demands of cruel regimes
like US government.
So, we can understand that a major part of Iranian
resistance culture backs to their religious beliefs without any link to the political
issues.
During past years, many of political reformists
asked the government of Iran to stop this resistance. When moderate government
of Hassan Rouhani raised power on 2013, the hopes for having better relation between
Tehran and Washington raised among them. After sign of JCPOA as a real success
of Rouhani’s government, rumors on creating mutual better and vaster relations
between the sides increased. But after rise of Trump as the new president of
the US, everything was changed. He broke the signed agreement with Iran simply
and refused to act according what US committed.
Now, even moderate political groups of Iran are regretful
for sign of such agreement with Washington and there is no way for them to
resist against demands of Washington alike what Imam Hussein did against Yazid.
In fact, today’s resistant behavior of Iranians is
laid in two main reasons: 1) their religious beliefs and teachings 2) non-commitment
of US government in front of free nations like Iran.
