Iran’s President Offers Condolences over Senior Cleric’s Demise

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani issued a message of condolence on the death of prominent Shia cleric Ayatollah Nasrollah Shahabadi.

The Center of Mosque Studies According to the website of the president’s office, here is the full text of the message:

“In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

‘We are all from Allah and to Him we shall return.’ (Holy Quran)

The passing of the late Ayatollah Haj Sheikh Nasrallah Shahabadi caused great grief and sorrow.

This pious mujtahid was trained by his respectful father the late Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Shahabadi and prominent Ulama (scholars) such as Imam Khomeini (RA) at the Qom and Najaf seminaries and devoted his life to promoting and teaching religious teachings.

Along with his relentless scholarly and religious activities, that pious cleric was always effectively present at various political and social events along with people.

I hereby express my condolences to the seminaries, his students and followers, and especially his respectful family.”

Ayatollah Nasrollah Shahabadi passed away at a hospital in Tehran on Monday at the age of 86.

He was a member of the Assembly of Experts, representing the people of Tehran.
