A Quran competition was held in Sweden earlier this week with the participation of 55 memorizers.

According to hqmi.org website, it was held in the categories of memorization of the entire Quran, and 20, 10, and 5 Juzes (parts) of the Quran in two sections for men and women.

Sweden’s Waqf al-Risala Islamic institute organized the event in cooperation with the World Quran Memorization Association and Kuwait’s Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ministry.

An eight-member committee of Quran experts judged the performance of the participants and selected the top winners.

The winners in different categories of the contest were awarded at the closing ceremony, which was attended by Sheikh Abdul Rahman Aqil, head of Waqf al-Risala Islamic institute, prayers leader of Masjid al-Nabi Mosque Sheikh Muhammad Khalil, as well as a number of Quran teachers and memorizers.

Speakers at the ceremony underlined the importance of learning the Quran and urged the participants to continue memorizing the Quran and mastering the rules of Tajweed.

The Waqf al-Risala Islamic institute, which was founded in Sweden in 2003, aims to promote the Islamic culture and teachings.

It also has branches in Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Finland.
