The Atlanta Muslim Community has organized a citywide open house at several masjids for “Visit a Mosque Day” from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday . About 15 mosques are participating.
Al-Farooq Masjid in Atlanta is participating in the initiative.
Visitors will get a guided tour of the mosque, a presentation about Islam and American Muslims, followed by a question and answer session.
There has been an ongoing effort in the Muslim community to show Islam in a positive light and to help others learn about the faith, which has only intensified following attacks in Paris and California.
“There’s a lot of misinformation that people are hearing about Islam and we just wanted to give our neighbors an opportunity to come and visit Muslims in their places of worship,” said Shuaib Hanief, who works in outreach for the initiative and attends several mosques in the metro area, including the Madina Institute in Duluth.

He said some mosques will have questions and answer sessions, poetry and calligraphy demonstrations.
