The Chief Kazi to the Government of Tamil Nadu has said that the crescent of the lunar month of Muharram was not sighted on October 13.
Hence, the 'Yoem-e-Shahadath' (10th day of Muharram) would be observed on October 24 in Tamil Nadu and not on October 23, a Government Order said quoting the request of the State chief Kazi to declare October 24 a public holiday.
"The government has decided to declare 24 October 2015 a public holiday for Muharram instead of October 23, under the Negotiable Instruments Act," the order said adding a gazettee notificiation dated today was being published in this regard.
