A group representing the Muslim community in Quebec is expressing outrage at the statements of CAQ leader François Legault. He suggests investigating mosques before allowing them to operate.

"It's unbelievable," said Haroun Bouazzi, president of the Association of Muslims and Arabs for a Secular Quebec. He said Legault's statements go against the very same democratic values he is supposedly defending.

"Value police, in Quebec, in Canada? I mean these examples exist in Saudi Arabia, in Iran, not here," said Bouazzi.

"Obviously this answer is against democratic values. So how can we actually fight people who don't believe in democracy with non-democratic solutions?"

Bouazzi said he believes Legault is just trying to score political points on the back of the Muslim community, some members whom he says got fed up and have since moved to places such as Morocco and Ontario because of the negative media reports and the unwelcome feeling they were getting.

"In the Muslim communities here in Quebec, we are very scared, really scared," said Bouazzi.
